The Spine Collectors
274 x 152 cms
Graphite, pencil colour, water colour, casein, collage on paper
The Spine Collectors is a very large drawing on paper. The macro narrative of this drawing is sourced from a popular Indian mythological story of the Churning of the Ocean. There are other references from a range of sources which are integrated into the drawing like
Nautilus from a Jules Verne's science fiction novel; archaeology in Colonial India; ecological history; Freud and others. The multifaceted narrative of this work is a take on the aspects of exploitation and violence; while the drawing has a documentative quality reminiscent of
old encyclopaedia illustrations.
